Sierra Colina Village will have fire sprinklers in ALL of the residences. This is beyond the requirements of the Douglas County Building Code. The current code does not require many of the Sierra Colina homes to have fire sprinklers, by virtue of their smaller size. Nonetheless, all Sierra Colina homes will contain fire sprinklers. Sierra Colina will be the first all-fire-sprinklered residential neighborhood in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Sierra Colina plans to underground the 14.4 kV overhead electric line that divides the site (visible from U.S. Highway 50). Under-grounding this electrical line creates a scenic benefit from Highway 50 and within the neighborhood, and reduces the fire hazard which overhead high voltage lines create. In conjunction with a TRPA permit, Sierra Colina has been doing fuel’s reduction on the site for several years. In addition, Sierra Colina is conducting forest health restoration by removing diseased trees and dead trees that also present fire hazard conditions.
