Sierra Colina is an 18-acre parcel of land located on U.S. Highway 50 in Stateline, Nevada. Sierra Colina is situated inside the Burke Creek Watershed. The Burke Creek Watershed is one of 63 watersheds that drain into Lake Tahoe. The Burke Creek Watershed is over 3,000 acres in size. The entirety of Sierra Colina’s 18 acres is approximately 0.6% of the acreage of the Burke Creek Watershed. The flow line of Burke Creek occurs in certain places within the 3,000 acres of the Burke Creek Watershed. The entire Burke Creek flow-line is over 4 miles in length. A small portion of the Burke Creek flow-line crosses Sierra Colina. Out of the entire length of Burke Creek, approximately 4% of the flow line is inside Sierra Colina (96% of the flow-line of Burke Creek is on a combination of other private property parcels and government land). On the southwest corner of Sierra Colina where Burke Creek exists before passing through a culvert under U.S. Highway 50, decades ago, to create space for the Golden Nugget Casino parking lot on the parcel adjacent to Sierra Colina, the past owners of the Casino land moved Burke Creek from its naturally occurring location on their parcel by bulldozing it onto the southern boundary of Sierra Colina. The Golden Nugget Casino was torn down and eventually replaced by the parking lot at what is now a commercial business center (former site of Burger King, current location of UPS Store), the same location where the Casino used to be. The original flow-line of Burke Creek prior to the 1950s used to be through the middle of what is now a parking lot on the private property commercial business center adjacent to Sierra Colina on its southwest boundary.
