Sierra Colina SEZ
What is Burke Creek EIP #161 (Restoration of Burke Creek)?

Burke Creek is included in TRPA’s Environmental Improvement Program (“EIP”) Master List of Environmental Improvement Projects.  EIP projects are designed to achieve and maintain environmental thresholds that protect Tahoe’s unique and valued resources.  Restoration of Burke Creek is listed four times in the EIP, twice related to fisheries thresholds and twice related to soil conservation and SEZ thresholds (TRPA 2001).  Restoration of approximately two miles of Burke Creek near the U.S. Highway 50 Burke Creek Culvert (EIP #161), including the portion that runs through the Sierra Colina parcel on its southwest border, was allocated funding with proceeds generated by the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA) in the SNPLMA Lake Tahoe Basin Restoration Act Round 6 in February 2006.

TRPA is the lead public agency for EIP #161 and is currently mapping existing resources and conducting a preliminary assessment of the creek. EIP #161 would be designed to enhance the productivity of Burke Creek, a portion of which occurs on Sierra Colina (900 lineal feet of the Creek’s 21,800 lineal feet [4%]). A preliminary schedule for EIP #161 indicates that a Final Alternatives Analysis Report is in process.  Currently, Sierra Colina Village is cooperating with TRPA on restoration efforts under EIP #161 on the portion of Burke Creek located inside the Sierra Colina parcel.
